Apply for guardianship
What is guardianship?
- When you apply for guardianship, you are asking that someone becomes a guardian for another person.
- A guardian makes decisions about lifestyle for someone who is incapable of making these decisions for themselves.
- A guardian can make decisions about where someone lives, medical treatment and what services will be provided.
- The Tribunal will only appoint a Guardian if they believe a person is unable to make decisions for themselves and there is a need to appoint someone to make these decisions for them.
Making the application
You can either make an application by:
- online application or
- printing out the Application for Appointment of a Financial Manager and/or Appointment of a Guardian form from the publications section of this website, or
- speaking to the Tribunal's enquiry service
